With Santander's Drupal 7 based version of the website needing a design and content refresh we worked with Santander to deliver a componentised design system whilst rebuilding the site in Drupal 9.
About the project
Requirements:
Produce a customer-focused website that addresses the commercial requirements of multiple business stakeholders.
During the initial discovery phase, we engaged with stakeholders from across the business to understand their specific objectives to help define the new sites commercial purpose. In these early meetings it was clear that Santander required an atomic design system and an editing experience that would allow them to efficiently brief new page designs using existing components and have non-technical team members be able to build said pages.
We also needed to undertake a content migration for all content on the existing Drupal 7 site and map this content to the newly designed componentised system whilst upgrading the site to Drupal 9.
Outcomes:
We delivered a new Drupal 9 site utilising a fully componentised system meeting Santander's requirements for most day to day changes to be achieved via a content editing team, freeing up development resources to focus on creating new and exciting features.
Since the sites launch we have been working closely with Santander to further improve the user experience and accessibility via tools such as site improve, A/B testing and regular content reviews.
We also provide advice on content strategy based upon user analytics gathered from the site.

Paragraphs combined with core's layout builder enabled our dev team to create modular pre configured components that could easily be added to or removed from a page by a content editor allowing them to completely change the structure of a page from within the CMS (something that on the previous Drupal 7 site was only achievable through code changes).
