  • SMS Gateway integration - Twilio SMS gateway: Twilio SMS gateway is integrated for registering users to Nube application from their mobile devices. Users registering to the Nube mobile application app receive an OTP which is sent using Twilio SMS gateway.
  • Google Maps API Integration: Gas company administrator’s dashboard/portal has google maps which are shown by integrating Google Maps API. These google maps include the search feature and also display the tank locations of all its customers.
  • Highcharts Integration: Nube has large amount of data which needs to be displayed to its users relevantly. In order to achieve this, Highcharts integration is done in Nube. Using Highcharts, gas company administrator can see the gas consumption done by all its customers and also by an individual customer in a periodic manner in the form of Area charts. The administrator can also see the number of tanks at different levels in a Pie chart format. Individual tank levels are displayed in Gauge format to both gas company administrators on the portal and also to customers in mobile application.
  • REST APIs: Nube has mobile applications for both Android & iOS, for interacting with these applications, REST APIs are used. These APIs are provided by RESTful Web Services which are included and supported by Drupal 8 core.
  • Push Notification integration: All mobile applications support push notifications, so does Nube. Push notifications are integrated to notify user when tank levels drop to a lower level, stating that a refill is needed and also when order status are changed.

Nube delivers a complete end-to-end solution that comprises of a Telemetry As A Service (TaaS), seamlessly integrated with Sierra Wireless’s Device-to-Cloud solution. In addition, they provide a cloud Gas Admin Portal for the gas companies and a mobile app for the consumers. Gas companies can use the admin portal to monitor the demand (orders) of their customers and integrate the information to plan, schedule and develop delivery schedules in advance. This in turn enables gas companies to optimize their procurement and inventory management.

About the project

Requirments Ÿ :

  • In Mexico, as in most of Central and Latin America, liquid petroleum gas used by commercial, industrial businesses and residences is almost unanimously stored on the roof top of buildings. Roof mountings free up space on the ground, take advantage of an area that might otherwise go unused, and give buildings a more attractive appearance – but make tanks hard to access. It can be difficult, even dangerous, to reach a tank and get a meter reading. Without meter readings, it is almost impossible to know when tanks need a refill.
  • Due to the lack of access to the liquid petrolelum (LP) gas tank reading, the gas consumers in Mexico take the constant risk of running out of gas. Ÿ
  • The gas companies, on the other hand, run refilling operations that are inefficient and costly. Ÿ
  • The whole LP gas delivery ecosystem operates on guesswork and fear.

Solution:

  • Thus there was a need to build a platform that can resolve the needs of both - the end consumer as well as the gas companies.
  • Solution was to build a dashboard for the gas companies and Mobile app for end consumers. Gas company admin can now have a view of customers, their current tank levels, orders placed, etc.
  • Using the mobile app end consumers can check gas level of tanks, place orders for gas refill which can be automated or manual and also view consumption history.
  • Mobile app for end consumers - They can know the current level of gas in the tank, and thus decide on when they want to refill it
  • Website for gas companies - Even they know which tank has less gas and thus they can send trucks to refill only those gas tanks, thus increasing their efficiency. They can even monitor the orders placed by end consumers and refill the gas. All this data will give the gas company an idea of the consumption in a particular area and this an insight into the amount of gas they are required to store there, thus saving lot of capital and operational costs.

Outcomes:

  • The consumers can set alerts in advance, eliminating the risk of running out of gas
  • The gas company can optimize scheduling and delivery operations giving way to significant cost savings and superior customer services

Why Drupal was chosen

  • Nube is an IoT based application which uses Drupal as complete backend solution, It store the information in form of Drupal entities and perform analysis on information, Analysed information is shared with gas company and end users to improve Consumer Experience and Gas Tank Refilling Efficiency. Sierra Wireless supports the gathering and transmission of tank data.
  • Drupal’s backend is mostly leveraged to manage the large amount of data relative to customers, their tanks and devices attached to these tanks along-with order tracking and management.
  • Drupal’s REST services are used to interact with mobile applications to display data and information to users on their mobile devices.
  • Drupal is also used to build admin dashboard/portals for gas companies to track its customers, their tanks along-with tank-levels and orders. Gas companies are also made available with total consumption history of their company as well as individual customer in the form of charts in a periodic manner (weekly, monthly and yearly).
