The Houston Health Department provides public health services and resources to residents throughout the City of Houston. Prior to this project, the department's online presence existed only as a section within the broader houstontx.gov website, limiting its ability to establish a dedicated digital identity and provide targeted access to public health information.

The Houston Health Department sought to create its own standalone website that would improve the public's ability to find health resources, access documents, and interact with the department online. The new platform needed to support content migration from the existing City website, provide enhanced search capabilities, and enable digital forms for public inquiries and service requests.

About the project

The primary goal of the project was to establish a standalone Houston Health Department website that improved access to public health information and provided residents with more convenient online services. Key requirements included migrating existing content from houstontx.gov/health, implementing a searchable PDF document library, and creating online intake forms using Drupal Webforms.

TrazerEdge supported the configuration and implementation of Acquia Cloud Site Factory, performed Drupal site-building, and migrated content into the new Houston Health Department platform. The solution included the creation of a dedicated Drupal website architecture designed to support ongoing content management and future enhancements.

Following the initial implementation, TrazerEdge transitioned into an ongoing support role, providing technical services, custom development, maintenance, troubleshooting, and user support for the Houston Health Department website.

The result was a dedicated, scalable digital platform that gave the Houston Health Department greater control over its online presence and improved access to public health resources. The Drupal and Acquia-based solution provides a strong foundation for continued enhancement while enabling the department to better serve residents through digital services and self-service capabilities.

Why Drupal was chosen

Drupal was selected because it provided the flexibility, scalability, and content management capabilities required for a dedicated public health website. Combined with Acquia Cloud Site Factory (ACSF), Drupal enabled the department to establish a secure, enterprise-level platform while providing the foundation for future growth and additional digital services.

Drupal's robust content architecture supported the migration and organization of existing public health information, while its extensibility allowed for searchable document libraries, online forms, and custom functionality tailored to the department's needs.
