Sector(s)
IMI Publishing operates EM360 Tech, a B2B enterprise technology platform where contributors publish articles, podcasts, whitepapers, and videos. The publisher needed network-style profiles, follows, messaging, and events alongside editorial feeds and paid content promotion, all scoped to IT. Drupal unifies moderation workflows, subscription payments, contributor scoring, Mautic automation, and audience analytics in one CMS instead of separate publishing and community tools.
About the project
EM360 Tech is a B2B enterprise technology hub where contributors publish articles, podcasts, whitepapers, and videos while following profiles, sending messages, and creating events scoped to the IT industry.
The client
IMI Publishing creates thematic content platforms for specialist audiences. EM360 Tech targets enterprise technology leaders, solution providers, and media partners. Contributors register, publish multi-format content, earn recognition through activity scoring, and optionally pay to promote materials in category feeds while editors retain moderation control.
Challenge
The platform needed to:
- Publish user-generated articles, podcasts, whitepapers, and videos in category feeds focused on enterprise technology.
- Support follows, direct messages, posts, and events alongside LinkedIn API sign-in and subscription payments.
- Run moderation from draft through review before content appears in public feeds.
- Rank contributors from New Contributor to Industry Guru with tier-specific publishing privileges.
- Queue and rotate paid promotions fairly when multiple authors advertise in the same category.
- Sync Mautic contacts and surface audience statistics by industry, role, seniority, and country.
Solutions
Structured content types and editorial workflow
Custom content types and taxonomy organize articles, podcasts, whitepapers, videos, and events into feeds such as AI in the Enterprise or Data Management. Content Moderation states move each submission from editing through review before publication.
Contributor scoring and role tiers
Activity points on Drupal user profiles unlock tiers from New Contributor to Industry Guru, adjusting moderation rules and privileges such as podcast guest eligibility. Listing pages highlight industry leaders, solution providers, and media partners.
Subscription plans and payment integration
Free, optimal, and premium plans control publishing and promotion limits. Contributors checkout through integrated payment gateways and upgrade from their post dashboard to unlock Recommended placement in category feeds.
Content advertising queue and rotation
When more than three promoted items compete in a category carousel, additional entries enter a queue. Visible slots refresh hourly with shuffled articles, podcasts, and videos. Promotions beyond nine waiting items line up until a slot opens.
Mautic and audience metrics
Registration creates Mautic contacts with source tags. Comment, like, and follow events trigger configurable email notifications. Newsletter tags support segmented campaigns. A Tell us your audience view aggregates visitor statistics contributors review before purchasing promotion.
Result
EM360 Tech runs as a Drupal content and community platform where IT contributors publish, promote, and engage in one site. Scoring tiers, subscription checkout, fair promotion rotation, Mautic automation, and audience metrics operate from a single CMS backend.
Examples of implemented features:
- Multi-format UGC feeds with category taxonomy for articles, podcasts, whitepapers, and videos.
- LinkedIn API sign-in with profiles, follows, messaging, posts, and events.
- Content Moderation workflow from draft to review to published feeds.
- Activity-based tiers from New Contributor to Industry Guru.
- Subscription checkout and Recommended section promotion with hourly rotation.
- Mautic contact sync, notification emails, and newsletter tagging.
- Audience statistics by industry, role, seniority, and geography.
Why Drupal was chosen
EM360 Tech needed one CMS for user-generated content, social profiles, events, and paid subscriptions. Splitting publishing and community tools would duplicate user records and push moderation outside editorial workflows.
Drupal's entity model, role-based access, and Content Moderation workflows guide submissions from draft to published feeds. Custom extensions on user and node entities power scoring tiers, promotion queues, and LinkedIn sign-in, while API hooks sync Mautic contacts and engagement events. Editors manage categories, leaderboards, and advertising slots from the admin UI.
