Overview
United Water was originally founded as Hackensack Water Company in 1869 as a water supply and storage company. In 1983, Hackensack Water reorganized into United Water Resources, Inc. and in 1994 it acquired General Waterworks Corporation for $200 million.
Why Drupal was chosen
The primary goal of the client was to have a Content Management System with capabilities like accessibility features, availability, scalability and security.
All of these features are available in Drupal and its scalable architecture made client to choose Drupal. In-built functionalities like varnish, caching, aggregation also added to the selection criteria. The other important parameter is the reduction in cost as there is no license costs involved.

Architecture
The site has a Load Balancer with hot spare in case of any failure. The site has scalable web servers that can be increased or decreased based on the capacity. The site has Memcache servers for caching the database queries and Varnish to serve the anonymous content.
Apache Solr is used to have search requests processed across different content types. New Relic is used to monitor the site performance with live input data.
The site has to be migrated and feeds/feeds tamper modules helped to migrate the content from existing sites. There is a legacy system which has the sensitive customer information data, payment information and order records.
Drupal connectors were being leveraged to create a layer to have all the data connected to the Drupal system.
The site is also PCIDSS compliant. Protection of user sensitive data is needed.
Tracking of the system is done using New Relic cloud.
