Project Team
FUF // Frank und Freunde GmbH, a Drupal agency in Stuttgart, develops and hosts the site.
The Bosch Health Campus in Stuttgart brings together the Robert Bosch Stiftung's activities in health care: patient care at the Robert Bosch Hospital, biomedical research, education and training, and the funding of new ideas for better care. The website is the shared home for these institutions. It publishes news, stories, press releases, projects, publications, events and job vacancies in two languages. The campus's corporate communications team is responsible for its content.
About the project
Goals. The site has to present the campus as one organisation while giving each institution, project and research topic its own pages, in German and in English.
Requirements and how Drupal meets them.
- Two languages: German and English with the path prefixes /de and /en, built on core Language, Content Translation, Interface Translation and Configuration Translation.
- Structured content: 16 content types, among them news, press releases, projects with sub pages, institutions, publications, events, vacancies and contact persons.
- Flexible pages: editors assemble pages from Paragraphs. 63 paragraph types are in use, from text, image and text, and image carousels to FAQs, quotes, video and contact person blocks.
- Editorial control: a core Content Moderation workflow (draft, published, archived) covers news, pages, press releases, projects, publications and institutions. Images and videos are managed in the core Media Library.
- Search: Search API with a Solr backend indexes ten content types in both languages. A search service in FUF's base module queries this index for the site search.
- Fields and paragraph types are defined in code as a JSON schema and applied by FUF's own configuration sync module, not built in the admin UI.
Outcome. The live sitemap lists 427 pages, 300 in German and 127 in English. The same codebase has been upgraded in place: to Drupal 9 in December 2021, to Drupal 10 in September 2023 and to Drupal 11 in August 2025. The Drupal 11 upgrade removed the contributed CKEditor 4 module, the Seven theme and Advanced CSS/JS Aggregation; editors now work in CKEditor 5. In 2024 FUF implemented a design refresh of key components such as the mixed teaser, project teaser and image and text paragraphs. Maintenance releases continue, most recently in September 2026.
Why Drupal was chosen
The Robert Bosch Stiftung moved its corporate website to Drupal 8 in early 2018, with FUF responsible for the technical implementation, because its staff already had good experience with Drupal. In the same year FUF set up a shared Drupal base for foundation sites, with a common base theme and a common custom module. The Bosch Health Campus site is built on that base, and so are the sites of campus institutions such as the Institute of Clinical Pharmacology (IKP) and the PORT health centre, which FUF also hosts.
Technical Specifications
Drupal version:
Key modules/theme/distribution used:
- Paragraphs and Entity Reference Revisions let editors build pages from components whose revisions follow the page.
- Search API and Search API Solr provide one index over ten content types in German and English for the site search.
- Pathauto generates URL patterns per content type and language, such as /en/project/... and /de/projekt/....
- Redirect keeps old addresses working. 297 redirects are in place, and its Redirect 404 submodule logs missing pages.
- Linkit gives editors autocomplete for internal links in both CKEditor 5 text formats.
- Media Library Edit lets editors edit images and videos directly from the media library widget, which 22 entity forms use.
