Brief:
Create a content portal that helps showcase everything entertainment, from articles, images and news about films, music and everything pop culture.
Our Response:
A clean, easy-to-navigate UI, was designed to facilitate content consumption. The logo color scheme was designed in such a way that it could be extended to the entire site and changed as per need. Technically supported animated daily poll results, progressive jpegs downloading format & pre-load images were made available to view images at one go. Moreover, site & fb commenting was also made available for convenient user interaction. Popglu was designed to be an adaptive site that makes on-the-go browsing through mobile and tablets easy. All of this and more required a CMS that would be easy to extend and had solid framework along with being secured. And all of this was made possible by the latest Drupal 7 CMS, a great out-of-the-box CMS solution, making Popglu a fun and easy to consume site for everything entertainment.
Why Drupal was chosen
Here are the reasons that led us to opt for Drupal 7:
- The Popglu Project is heavily based on Content Uploads and Content Management
- It included UGC (User Generated Content) features like comments, rating and social sharing
- We have optimize images using image module available in Drupal7 core. This way we made sure smaller devices(like mobile phones) would have images with reduced resolution making them to load faster.
- 5 types of quizzes are coming soon in phase 2. We needed an environment where articles, quizzes and other type of content can be housed under same mnemonic (Node). We then extended the Node concept to add more article type(Content based, Listicle, Video Listicle, Listicles with Social post embed) related features. Different types of Quizzes are also implemented by extending node hooks.
- All this had to be done within the stipulated project timeline, which was just 90 days
- This required flexible CMS. CMS which is easy to extend and has a solid framework which was not only fast enough but also secure and stable
- Drupal is a great out-of-the-box CMS solution. Drupal has a very strong hook system. We have used this to extend node, user and other core modules.
- We have also used contributed modules like display suite, ajax comment etc.
- We have integrated mustache js with Drupal theme. This has drastically reduced the development time.
All of this has helped us to deliver the Popglu website within the deadline of 90 days.

Website theme can be changed dynamically. Logo color, font color can be controlled through backend. We have extended the functionality of Drupal 7 core color module for the same.
Website is content driven. We extended node, user and comments module to provide enhanced backend and easy to use front end.
We had to keep check on page load time due to large size of images and content. Due to this, Most of the sections of the website are loading through ajax. For this we have developed customized ajax module specifically to control section load sequence.
