The Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) is the world's largest nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Armenian heritage through educational, cultural, humanitarian, and socio-economic programs. With operations spanning 31 countries and 74 cities, AGBU serves more than 500,000 people annually through a diverse network of regional offices, chapters, schools, and programs.
Over time, AGBU's digital presence had grown into more than 50 independent websites built on multiple platforms, including WordPress, Joomla, and custom-developed solutions. Managing these disparate systems created security risks, increased maintenance costs, inconsistent branding, and fragmented communications. Following a content technology assessment, AGBU sought to unify its web presence on a single platform that would provide a consistent user experience while supporting the unique needs of its global organization.
About the project
The primary goal of the project was to consolidate more than 50 independent websites into a unified Drupal platform that would improve governance, strengthen branding, and simplify content management across AGBU's worldwide organization. Key requirements included supporting multiple domains, multilingual content, centralized content governance, advanced search, event management, and integration with CiviCRM for constituent engagement.
TrazerEdge implemented a multi-domain Drupal solution using the Domain Access module, allowing regional offices, chapters, and programs to operate individual websites while sharing a common platform. The implementation included migration from WordPress, multilingual support for English, Armenian, and French, a custom responsive theme, reusable page-building components, standardized taxonomy, Solr-powered faceted search, and custom location directories for chapters, schools, offices, and young professional groups. Drupal was also integrated with CiviCRM to support online donations and event registration.
The project followed a structured implementation process that included requirements definition, design consultation, technical architecture, custom development, content migration, quality assurance, training, and ongoing support.
The result was a centralized, scalable digital platform that replaced dozens of independently managed websites with a cohesive Drupal ecosystem. AGBU now benefits from consistent branding, streamlined content management, improved search and navigation, multilingual support, and a sustainable platform capable of supporting the organization's global mission while reducing the complexity and cost of maintaining multiple web technologies.

Drupal was selected because it offered the flexibility, scalability, and multisite capabilities needed to support AGBU's complex global organization. Using Drupal's Domain Access architecture, AGBU could manage multiple regional, chapter, and program websites from a centralized platform while allowing each site to maintain its own content and identity within a consistent governance model.
Drupal's powerful content architecture, multilingual capabilities, taxonomy system, and extensibility also enabled standardized content organization, advanced search, flexible page building, and seamless integration with CiviCRM for donations and event registration. The platform provided a strong foundation for managing a large, distributed digital ecosystem while reducing maintenance overhead and improving long-term sustainability.
