ddev composer require drupal/rightup
The Rightup is a free site template for newsrooms, publishers, magazines and editorial teams. It installs a complete publication with news and podcasts, section landing pages, a live feed ticker and search with filters.
Pages are built with Drupal Canvas, so editors shape layouts without code. A newly published article reaches the home page ticker without anyone editing it.
Built for
- Newsrooms and digital news outlets
- Magazines and publishers
- Editorial and content teams
- Publications that pair articles with podcasts
What you get
- Pages ready to publish: a home page with a live feed ticker, section landing pages, news and podcast listings, article and episode pages, author pages, search results, newsletter, about, contact, and the policy pages the footer links to.
- Structured news: articles with categories, tags, authors and media.
- Podcasts: episodes with audio and transcripts.
- A live feed ticker: editors curate it from an entity queue. When the queue is empty, it shows the newest published content.
- Search that filters: a results page with category, content type and date filters, plus inline filters on the news listing.
- Header and footer from the design: main and offcanvas navigation, a newsletter call to action, social links and a copy-page-link control.
- Ready-made patterns: sections editors can drop onto any page.

FAQ
Is The Rightup free?
Yes. It is open source under GPL-2.0-or-later, and every part of it, including the theme, comes from drupal.org.
Which Drupal version does it need?
Drupal CMS 2 (Drupal 11).
How do I install it?
Require drupal/rightup with Composer, then choose The Rightup in the Drupal CMS installer. The commands on this page do the same with DDEV and Drush.
How does the live feed ticker work?
Editors curate it from an entity queue. When the queue is empty, it shows the newest published content.
Do editors need to write code?
No. Pages are built with Drupal Canvas and edited in the Canvas editor, and ready-made patterns can be added to any page.
Does it track readers?
No analytics or tracking is enabled by default. Form submissions, including newsletter sign-ups, stay in your site's own database.
Is hosting included?
No. The Rightup is a site template. Deploy it on any hosting that supports Drupal CMS.
Where can I get help?
Open an issue in the drupal.org issue queue. Vardot maintains the project and triages issues there.
