Discover why Drupal has a leading edge in AI and Open Source

Leaders from across the Drupal community gathered in Paris for the Drupal AI Summit, a 1-day conference dedicated to the latest announcements and releases of the Drupal AI Initiative. The Drupal AI Summit was hosted within Future of Software Conference (FOST), the world’s largest federated technology conference. This setting provided an appropriate backdrop for a focused discussion on the future of AI within the Drupal ecosystem.

About the Drupal AI Summit

The summit brought together those leading the advancement of AI within Drupal. Experts addressed practical architecture, emerging development models and the lessons learned from building open source AI tooling at scale across 12 sessions during the day.

Attendees gained clear, practical guidance on how to apply AI to their own business requirements using open source systems that supported sovereignty, sound governance and responsible use, without the ongoing burden of licence costs.

The wider conference reinforced this message. It was built on the principle of one ecosystem with infinite possibilities, spanning APIs, AI, agents, sustainability, cyber security and the disciplines that shape modern digital infrastructure. It brought communities together in a federated environment where collaboration replaced competition, enabling developers, architects, researchers and policymakers to share insight with clarity.

Those attending could expect practical sessions, demonstrations that mattered and discussions focused on long term value rather than short lived hype. For organisations assessing how AI would influence their digital estate, this summit offered a grounded and informed perspective.

Programme

Drupal & MCP

Giorgi Jibladze, Co-founder, CTO — Omedia

Drupal was one of the first of its kind to support MCP on Anthropic’s list of MCP Servers!

Giorgi will demonstrate how Drupal can be used as an MCP server. This session aims to showcase how complex and impressive applications can be built using Drupal MCP with relative ease, particularly where Drupal offers unique or easier capabilities compared with other frameworks.

The presentation will focus on exposing MCP resources to highlight Drupal’s strength as a content modelling tool and repository. It will also explore integrating Drupal with ChatGPT as an MCP server and supporting OpenAI’s new Apps SDK, enabling fully interactive UI components. Giorgi envisions creating a data model, wiring it to a UI using Canvas, and deploying it to ChatGPT through the MCP module.

Orchestrating AI with an open-source CMS: How Drupal powers the future of APIs & AI

Alex Moreno, Partner Manager and Developer Relations — Pantheon

Twenty-five years after its creation, Drupal has evolved from a content management system into a powerful orchestration platform for APIs, AI models, and digital experiences. Alex explores how Drupal’s modular architecture, decoupled capabilities, and ecosystem maturity make it ideal for bridging content, data, and intelligence.

Drawing from the “Drupal CMS, AI and Google Gemini” session at DrupalCon Vienna, Alex presents practical examples of integrating AI models and APIs to drive automation and intelligence. Attendees will learn how open-source CMS platforms remain vital in powering the next generation of intelligent digital ecosystems.

Drupal’s AI Agent Framework and how it builds powerful, accessible pages

Jamie Abrahams, - Co-founder — FreelyGive

Drupal pioneered a powerful and flexible AI abstraction layer and an Agentic framework that puts the power of AI in the hands of developers and end-users alike. Using Drupal’s existing flexible site-builder experience, a number of approaches to Agentic frameworks can be built and understood by everyone who needs to, not just coders!

Abrahams will work through how Drupal’s agentic framework can be utilised to create complex and powerful, accessible and responsive pages automatically whilst keeping a human in the loop and allowing people to fix and improve on what AI has achieved. Gone are the days where the final step of a CMS system requires extensive manual work.

Jamie will end with a preview of what is coming from the Drupal AI Ecosystem.

Private & Secure AI: A data sovereign, compliant solution for your team

Dan Lemon, Developer — amazee.io

This session presents a privacy-first AI assistant powered partly by Drupal, designed to allow teams to securely interact with internal documents, images, and PDFs. Dan explains how Drupal underpins data sovereignty and privacy in this tool.

Re-imagining web publishing with AI and UX research: Experimenting at the University of Edinburgh

Emma Horrell, User Experience Manager — University of Edinburgh

Drupal AI has always aimed to bring the power of AI to end-users and even non-coders giving the people who need it oversight and governance over what AI is doing. This only works because of our strong focus on UX from the beginning. Because AI is the new UI, Drupal AI has had the opportunity to improve UX across the Drupal ecosystem.

Emma, one of Drupal core’s UX leads, discusses experiments undertaken with Drupal AI to improve content management across a large university website. By combining UX research with open-source AI tools, her team explored real-time learning agents and AI-assisted editorial guidance. The session shares practical findings and a toolkit for designing AI experiments in large organisations.

AI-assisted site migrations in Drupal

Andrew Mallis, CEO — Kalamuna

Migration has always been an important part of systems like Drupal and the community created the Migrate module to help developers perform migrations with ease, consistently and reliably. AI has already provided huge wins with significantly speeding up this process getting people to useful applications faster!

Andrew outlines work on the AI Migrate Agent module, enabling developers to “chat” with the Migrate module to generate migration plans. He introduces the AI Migrate Generate module and Command line  tools (Drush) that allow automated AI migrations from CI environments.

AI Meets Community: Balancing Automation, Trust, and Participation

Moritz Arendt, Head of Product — Open Social

Moritz shares lessons from integrating AI into Open Social’s community platforms. The talk examines ethical and practical challenges of embedding AI in spaces built on collaboration. Attendees will gain insights into designing AI as a co-pilot rather than a replacement, maintaining trust while enabling intelligent automation.

AIO / GEO — Content optimisation with AI for AI

Christoph Breidert, Founder / CIO — 1xINTERNET

Christoph introduces the S1x Signals Framework, a method for “Artificial Intelligence Optimisation” and “Generation Engine Optimisation.” The session outlines how to prepare Drupal content for visibility in AI-generated search results and how Drupal can automate audits to keep content AI-ready.

How to Build AI Search with Drupal’s No-Code AI Framework

Artem Dmitriiev, Web Developer — 1xINTERNET GmbH

Drupal and AI search is a perfect match as so many organisations across the world have huge stores of content already in Drupal and no-code tools to help improve search across the Drupal Ecosystem. AI takes this to the next level!

Dmitriiev demonstrates how Drupal’s No-Code AI Framework allows teams to create intelligent search tools that combine keyword and semantic understanding. The session includes examples of conversational interfaces and AI-generated summaries built entirely with open-source tools.

Automation and beyond: Creating and publishing documentation using Drupal AI

Kristof Van Tomme, CEO / Co-founder — PRONOVIX

Kristof highlights Drupal’s leadership in developer portals and how AI enhances documentation publishing. He presents four key use cases: automated workflows, metadata extraction, AI-powered search, and answer engine optimization. The talk provides practical insights for API managers and technical writers exploring Drupal AI.
