Sponsor Drupal Contribution
The Drupal project depends on key individuals to fill essential contributor roles. From Product Managers, to Initiative Facilitators, to Release Managers, to Strategic Initiative leaders, these individuals keep the machinery of Drupal running and keep the project innovating. These key contributors need consistent sponsorship in order to fulfill their duties, and so the Drupal Association offers special contribution incentives to organizations who sponsor these positions.
The impact of your sponsorship
Sponsoring a member of the core leadership team or a strategic initiative lead provides numerous benefits for both the project and the sponsoring partner. Some of the benefits include:
- Contribution credits that can help you qualify for a higher tier on the Drupal Certified Partner Marketplace
- Permission to cite your sponsorship when bidding on Drupal projects
- (i.e: "We sponsor part of the team that built Drupal AI")
- Closer access to the Drupal product roadmap
- Professional development
- Advancing the Drupal project to improve market opportunities in the ecosystem
Sponsoring core
The people who keep the foundations of Drupal strong are the core leadership team. These are the people who have made a long-term, recurring commitment to Drupal's success, who spend time doing what must be done to keep the machinery of the project moving (not necessarily what is most fun), and who share the responsibility for the project's success.
The current members of the core leadership team are a key part of Drupal's governance structure and can be found in Drupal's MAINTAINERS.txt file. The Drupal Association offers a base credit boost that sponsors will receive for as long as they sponsor a core maintainer, depending on that person's role and the % of time sponsored.
All core leadership roles are equally important to the success of the project. Some members of the core leadership team contribute directly to many individual issues in the core issue queue and therefore can earn sponsors a high number of issue credits organically. Others focus on high-level strategy, but work on fewer individual issues, and so their contributions are supplemented with a higher base credit boost.

Sponsoring strategic initiatives
From time to time, Drupal project leadership designates strategic initiatives. These initiatives are areas of focus for innovation in Drupal. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to rally around these initiatives.
Unlike Drupal core sponsorship, strategic initiative sponsorship usually has more specific roadmaps and timelines. Organizations can earn bonus credit based on the combination of financial and contribution resources they commit.
Sponsoring a strategic initiative requires that the partner's expertise and scope of work be agreed with both the initiative leads and Drupal Association, and the credit bonus rate is 50 credits per FTE week + 1 credit per $100 of financial investment.
Current strategic initiatives include Drupal CMS, Drupal Canvas, and Drupal AI.
